For people who race

Know why you finished where you did.

Vane routes you through the weather before the start, then takes the GPS track off your phone afterwards and tells you which leg cost you four minutes — measured against the wind that was actually there, not a guess you typed in.

Forecasts are free, worldwide, forever.

The loop

Most apps stop when you leave the dock.

Vane closes the circle, and the last step is the one nobody else sells.

01 · BEFORE

Forecast

Eight global models, weighted by how each has actually performed at your venue, with a consensus and a plain briefing.

02 · BEFORE

Route

A time-dependent router through the whole wind field, with ocean currents, your polar, and a route per model side by side when they disagree.

03 · ON THE WATER

Sail

Local wind at about a kilometre where it matters, with coast and terrain effects — measured against real weather stations, not just modelled.

04 · AFTER

Debrief

Drop in the GPX from your watch or phone. Vane splits the race at the marks and shows where the time went, leg by leg.

Why the debrief is different

Everyone else makes you guess the wind.

A race debrief is only worth anything if it knows what the wind was doing. The tracker apps do not — one of the better ones asks you to type the wind direction in by hand. Vane already has the wind field, because it built one to route you through it, so "you lost 3:02 on the beat to Mark 2" is a measurement rather than an opinion.

Measured against the best route, not the rhumb line

Tacking upwind always adds about thirty per cent. Comparing your track to a straight line would call every beat a disaster, so Vane re-sails each leg optimally through the same wind and compares against that.

No hardware, no instruments

The track from a phone in a dry bag is enough. Vane can even learn your boat's polar from how it has actually sailed, rather than the one the designer published.

Wind from stations, not just models

Where weather stations exist, local wind is anchored to what they observed and downscaled over the terrain. Verified at Sydney against seven stations: 3.66 kn RMSE on the water against 4.08 raw.

Honest about what it does not know

Library polars are approximations and Vane says so. Where a venue has not been validated, it tells you that too, instead of quietly presenting a guess as a number.

Plans

The forecast is free. The debrief is the product.

Prices in Australian dollars, GST included — what you are quoted is what you pay. One free debrief a month, so you can see what it tells you before deciding it is worth anything.
